L’Ome – The Man

Gathering the berries

  • When hostility means quality: Sea buckthorn berries richest in vitamin C are found on highest, most hostile and arid soil. To get there, the pickers need to walk the steep paths of the southern Alps.
  • A ‘forbidden fruit’: The berries are agglutinated around the shrub’s branches. Its thorns make picking difficult. Because of their delicate and agile hands, gathering is a woman’s privilege. It is a strong and tiring process which has discouraged many. Consequently, there are few gatherers.
  • A manual picking: As sea buckthorn grows wild, its picking is not mechanical, and is the fruit of country walks of nature lovers.

  • Picking from mother to daughter : In the heart of a wild and genuine nature, mothers and daughters commune  through nature.
  • Fruit and complicity: Sea buckthorn was the secret of the gatherers’ husbands and sons strength. They used it as a base for many ointments and tonic recipes which gave enough strength for the hardest works.
